Hannah started having some problems a year ago around the time we moved to Utah with sleeping well. It took awhile to figure out what was going on, and if it was just related to the big move we made. But we figured out that her tonsils need to come and and were the root of the problems.
This is what they looked like before they came out. They rate them from a 1 (smallest) to a 4 (biggest) and her were a 4 plus. The dr. was asking me about some of the symptoms and if I had to cut up her food for her and things like that. After I saw how big they were I am wondering how she got any food down her throat! My goodness!
The morning of her surgery. She got to come and do a tour of the hospital the day before. She got a hospital buddy and this activity book. She was really brave and was looking forward to all the ice cream afterwards, but she was nervous that morning.
They told her she got to go to 3 different rooms. This was her first room. It is where the dr.s and nurses talk to her and get her ready for surgery. The surgery before us ended up going super long. We were suppose to be there at 10:00 am. Then they called us on our way and told us to come at 10:30 am. They say the surgery is about an hour after your arrival time. But she didn't end up going back for surgery until about 1:00 pm. She hadn't been able to eat since the night before. I felt so bad for her, but she didn't complain once.
So from this room the anesthesiologist took her for a wagon ride to the surgery room. She was being so brave, but I know her nerves were going pretty good about now.
It was kind of hard watching your little girl being wheeled away. I knew this was going to be the hardest part, but we were all happy to be getting onto the next phase, after waiting almost 3 hours. Headed to her 2nd room, the surgery room.
She was a perfect patient and the dr.s and nurse's all loved her and said they wanted to take her home with them. She did everything they asked her too and didn't complain about anything. Her biggest fear out of this all was the hurting afterwards. She was still kind of out of it here, but she was enjoying her first popsicle, a root beer one. Her hospital buddy next to her. She was in quite a bit of pain that first hour after the surgery. She also got a upset stomach from the anesthesia.
This is her final room, the recovery room.
Then magically when her medicine kicked in she was happy and perked up quite a bit. She had fun watching movies on Ky's pod and eating popsicles. She wouldn't talk because her throat was hurting her from the breathing tube they put down your throat.
A picture of her lovely tonsils. They were huge! They have a bunch of little pieces of food stuck in them, and that is partly what caused them to swell up so much. Tonsils can swell up and sometimes go back down. But how hers where they weren't going to get any smaller, so it's good we got them out. She also got the rest of her adenoids taken out.
So excited to go home and to get a ride in a wheelchair out to the car. We didn't leave the hospital until about 4:30, it was a long day!
We stopped at artic circle to get her some ice cream. They had orange and vanilla swirl which is her favorite. I think she was happy to finally eat something.
She also got a cake batter shake to have for later. She was one happy girl, and there were a lot of jealous kids at home. She had to work pretty hard for that ice cream though!
Recover was rough. The first few days were ok. She was doing fine with just Tylenol. Then about Sunday the pain worsened and she was on loratab and Tylenol. She started waking up at night 2 or 3 times just crying and it was hard to get her back to bed.

The worst days were suppose to be day 3 and 4, which was Monday and Tuesday. Things were still hurting, but it wasn't worse. So we thought we were doing good about about recovered. Then Wednesday morning things turned worse. She was in even more pain. She was then on Tylenol, ibuprofen and loratab, and she was still hurting. This lasted Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I was ready to call the dr. on Friday because she wasn't getting better, but decided to wait one more day. Sure enough Saturday she started to get better and perk up a little. She went to a cousins birthday party and that kind of wiped her out. She was ready to come home and get some medicine and rest. On Sunday she went to sacrament but was ready to go home and rest after that.

She was on loratab until Monday, and then after that she was able to do just Tylenol and ibuprofen. She went back to the dr. on Tuesday for her post op and everything looked good. He said she probably shouldn't need any more medicine except at night, which was true at that point. She continued to get better and better each day until the end of the 2nd week she was back to her normal self, except a better sleeping version!
The white stuff in the back of her throat are the scabs from the surgery. They lasted the full 2 weeks and why she had to be careful of what she ate. She could not eat anything sharp, hard or pokey for those two weeks. She pretty much lived off of popsicles, ice cream and mac n cheese.
She enjoyed her special foods and special treatments. She got to eat on the couch. Play ipods all day and she got to sleep in mommy and daddy's room.
At her post op appointment. It was a long 2 weeks, and I'm glad that everything went well and she recovered well from it.
